Essentials (Building a list, maintaining your list, selling to your list)
Building a list. Starting with little to nobody in your list is not a problem. And if you are reading this and you have nobody in your list I want you to pay very close attention to this next line: Building your list starts and ends with your desire to help people with a particular problem they are facing, and a solution you are providing…Sounds pretty basic, right? It is! But keep this line next your computer, and every time you are about to start working on building your list read it to yourself like a mantra. You can use several different methods to build your list; most of them are a variation of organic, paid, and referral style traffic.
Get acquainted with every possible traffic method you can and use trial and error to see what works best. Once you have brought people to your site, blog, or sales page you must harness their excitement in your product by getting their email address, name, and other valuable information. You must use an opt-in form to do this, and there are several different kinds of opt-in boxes – yet another aspect you will want to use trial and error
Maintaining your list. Getting people to sign up for your list is one thing, but keeping them entertained, informed, and educated is another thing altogether. One of my favorite ways of doing this is to have at least 6 months worth of weekly emails that will automatically be sent to them. This will keep them informed about things going on in your niche, and it will also keep you on your toes about what’s new in your niche.
Selling to your list. The most exciting part about having a list is being about to convert on them and make a profit. While you are informing them and helping them with their particular problem you can sell those products and services that are related to your niche. There is a very fine line you must walk here, however. Do not become one of those marketers that try to sell their lists on a daily basis. You will find out very quickly that your list is not interested in buying something from you everyday. Instead, pick your times, and offer something of value before you try to sell them… If you have not offered something valuable yet, then you are not ready to sell to your list.
